The Verdict
What sets Larry's Coffee apart is three decades of roasting only organic, fair trade coffee, with a certified B Corp behind every bag: Larry Larson started Larry's Beans in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1994, and in July 2025 he sold the company to Jessie Lotrecchiano and Sandro Niessen, a husband-and-wife team who run it from the same roastery on Gavin Street. The company says all of its coffee is organic, fair trade and shade-grown, with some lots also Smithsonian Bird Friendly. It was a founding member of Cooperative Coffees in 2000, a group of roasters that buys from small-farm cooperatives and puts about three cents a pound into an Impact Fund the growers direct. Larry's has been a Certified B Corporation since 2011, with a B Impact score of 113.9 in B Lab's directory, its decafs use a water process, and its bags are sold at Lowe's Foods and Sprouts as well as online. Most 12-ounce bags cost $22 or $23, including Larry's House Blend, Dr Mojo, Cowboy Blend and #17 Secret Espresso, with Mightier Mocha Java at $23.50 and the 42 Series Ethiopia Dehab's Diamond at $24.95. Bigger bags cut the price per ounce: Larry's House Blend costs $52.80 for 2 lb and $124.60 for 5 lb, and a 4-ounce sample costs $8.95. Coffee pods cost $14.99 for 12, and Cold Brew Concentrate $11.95 a bottle. Roast-level bundles of 12-ounce bags cost about $58 to $62 after the current 10% bundle saving. Subscribers save 15%, and subscription orders of $89 or more ship free. One-time orders pay $3.50 to $9 depending on order size, and coffee ships within 1 to 2 business days of roasting in Raleigh. There are trade-offs. The store ships within the United States only and not to PO boxes, so readers in Canada, Australia and the UK cannot order online. Coffee cannot be returned, though Larry's asks to hear within 30 days and offers a first-order guarantee: a free bag of a different roast, then a refund on one bag. Sale items and gift cards are not refundable. The FAQ says Larry's does not test for mycotoxins, and we found no Trustpilot profile. Start with a 4-ounce sample or a 12-ounce House Blend in your grind, then move to a subscription once you have a favorite.

How to choose a roast and grind
Pick the roast first. Light roasts such as Costa Little Ricky and the Ethiopia lean toward fruit and citrus; medium roasts such as Larry's House Blend, Dr Mojo and Cowboy Blend are balanced and chocolatey; dark roasts such as Bean Martin, Frenchy French and Mightier Mocha Java are heavier and bittersweet.
Then choose the grind for your brewer: whole bean if you grind at home, #3 for espresso, #5 for cone drip, #7 for flat-bottom drip machines, #10 for French press and #13 for a percolator.
Larry's suggests about 1 gram of coffee to 16 grams of water, roughly 2 tablespoons per 6 ounces. For cold brew, use about 9 cups of water to 1 lb of coarse coffee for 12 hours, then dilute 3 parts water to 1 part concentrate. If you are new to the roaster, a 4-ounce sample at $8.95 is the low-risk start.

Straight answers about Larry's Coffee, then how this review was written and stays independent.
About Larry's Coffee
Is Larry's Coffee legit?
Yes. Larry's Coffee is the trade name of Larry's Beans Inc, a Raleigh, North Carolina roaster founded in 1994 at 1507 Gavin Street. B Lab lists it as a Certified B Corporation since 2011, and its bags are sold at Lowe's Foods and Sprouts as well as online. It has no Trustpilot profile, so independent shopper reviews of the web store are thin.
Is Larry's Coffee organic and fair trade?
Larry's says 100% of its coffee is organic, fair trade and shade-grown, and its About page lists USDA Certified Organic, with some coffees also Smithsonian Bird Friendly. It buys through Cooperative Coffees, which it helped found in 2000, and about three cents a pound goes into an Impact Fund that farmers direct. Its decafs use a water process rather than chemical solvents.
Does Larry's Coffee ship to Canada?
No. The online store ships to US addresses only and publishes US rates only, with Alaska and Hawaii charged UPS rates and no delivery to PO boxes. Readers in Canada, Australia and the UK cannot order from the website.
What is Larry's Coffee's return policy?
Coffee is perishable, so it cannot be returned. Tell Larry's within 30 days if you are not happy and it will send a different roast, issue a refund or find another fix; refunds go to the original payment method, usually within 10 business days. Sale items and gift cards are not refundable. First orders also carry a Happiness Guarantee: a free 12-ounce bag of another roast, then a refund on one bag.
How do I cancel a Larry's Coffee subscription?
Log in to the subscription portal with the email used for your first subscription order and choose Cancel, or call (919) 828-1234. There is no contract. You can also skip, swap coffees, change the schedule (every 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 weeks) or send the next order now, and Larry's emails you three days before each charge.
Who owns Larry's Coffee?
Jessie Lotrecchiano and Sandro Niessen, a husband-and-wife team in Raleigh, bought Larry's Coffee from founder Larry Larson in July 2025. The company says it is 100% independent and family-owned, with no private equity or large corporate owner.
About this review
Is this Larry's Coffee review sponsored?
No. Larry's Coffee did not pay for this write-up, see it before publication, or have any say in the verdict. If we earn anything it is a commission after you buy, and it comes out of the merchant’s margin rather than your price.
How was the Larry's Coffee assessed?
By using it and by checking the claims made about it against what it actually does. Where our time with something has been limited, the review says so rather than implying more testing than happened.
What else have you reviewed in Food & Drinks?
Everything in Food & Drinks sits in the review library, where you can filter by budget and sort by rating, price or how recently it landed.
Do you update reviews after publishing?
Yes — when a product changes, when a price moves for good, or when we get something wrong. Corrections are made on the piece itself with a note saying what changed.
