- Grades Matched to How You Drink: Ceremonial Grade ($19.99 for 30 g) is made for whisking with water, Ceremonial Grade Latte ($18.99) for milk, and Barista Grade ($11.99) for lattes, smoothies and baking.

Cons
- The store ships only to US addresses and our checkout test offered no option for Alaska or Hawaii, so shoppers there and in Canada, Australia or the UK will need to buy Encha through other retailers instead.
- No product can be returned or exchanged, opened or not, and defects or shipping damage must be reported within 7 days of delivery with photos and the packing slip, so start with a 30 g pouch of the right grade before committing to a 500 g bag.
The Verdict
What sets Encha apart is a short, clearly graded range of certified organic Japanese matcha with free US shipping: Li Gong, a Stanford PhD who left a Silicon Valley job after touring organic tea farms in Japan, founded Encha on 18 November 2014; the brand and its trademark now belong to Elevate Brands OpCo LLC of New York. Current product pages say the leaves come through twelve years of direct partnerships with farms in Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Shizuoka and Uji, and are shade-grown, hand-picked and stone-ground. Encha posts its Ecocert certificate, issued on 2 December 2025, which lists the Ceremonial, Ceremonial Latte, Barista and Lightly Sweetened matcha, the single-serve sticks and the two limited reserves as organic under the USDA National Organic Program. The FAQ puts caffeine at about 60 mg per 2 g serving, roughly two thirds of an 8 oz cup of coffee. Pricing follows the grade. Ceremonial Grade, made for whisking with water, costs $19.99 for 30 g, $34.99 for 60 g and $189.99 for 500 g, with 30 single-serve sticks at $39.99. Ceremonial Grade Latte, blended for milk, costs $18.99, $24.99 and $139.99 for the same sizes, and Barista Grade, a later harvest for lattes and baking, costs $11.99, $19.99 and $89.99. A 30 g pouch makes about 15 servings, so a cup costs roughly $1.33 in Ceremonial and 80 cents in Barista. Subscribe & Save takes up to 15% off deliveries every one or two months, which you can skip, edit or cancel in your account, and standard shipping is free on US orders. The cautions are practical. Encha takes no returns, opened or not, and damage or errors must be reported within 7 days of delivery. It ships only to US addresses, and our checkout test offered no option for Alaska or Hawaii. Older FAQ and safety pages still describe a single farm in Uji, which no longer matches the product pages. Encha says its tests find no lead at its stated limit, while a 2025 test by the Lead Safe Mama project detected lead, cadmium and arsenic in its Ceremonial Grade, as that project reports for every matcha it has tested. Start with a 30 g pouch of the grade that fits how you drink matcha.

Standard shipping is free on US orders and takes 3 to 7 business days; the store ships to US addresses only, and our checkout test offered no option for Alaska or Hawaii. Encha's posted Ecocert certificate (issued 2 December 2025, first certified 17 September 2024) lists its matcha grades, sticks and reserves as organic under the USDA National Organic Program. A 2 g serving has about 60 mg of caffeine, and subscriptions run every one or two months with skip, edit and cancel controls in the account.
Encha accepts no returns or exchanges on any product, opened or unopened; defects, shipping damage or wrong items must be emailed within 7 days of delivery with photos and the packing slip, and Encha replaces the item or refunds its cost at its discretion. A subscription charge is not reversed once that month's order has shipped. Encha: what to know before you buy
Encha sells USDA Organic Japanese matcha in three main grades, with free US shipping and a subscription option. Here is what each grade costs, how to choose one and what to know about shipping and returns.
Shipping, returns & warranty
Encha ships to US addresses only, and standard shipping is free on every order, including subscriptions, with delivery in 3 to 7 business days. Our checkout test offered no shipping option for Alaska or Hawaii addresses, and Canada, Australia and the UK are not served. Once the courier has the package, Encha says it is not responsible for lost or stolen parcels, so use an address where deliveries are safe.
There are no returns or exchanges on any product, opened or unopened. If something arrives defective, damaged or wrong, email [email protected] within 7 days of delivery with clear photos of the problem and of the packing slip; Encha then replaces the item or refunds its cost at its discretion.
For gifts, write "This is a gift." in the note to the seller at checkout and the packing slip with prices is left out. We found no published Christmas order-by date, so allow the full 7 business days.
Encha matcha grades
Ceremonial Grade: first-harvest leaves, shade-grown, hand-picked and stone-ground, blended from six cultivars and made to be whisked with water only. It costs $19.99 for 30 g, $34.99 for 60 g, $189.99 for 500 g, or $39.99 for 30 single-serve sticks.
Ceremonial Grade Latte: also first harvest, blended from five cultivars for milk, hot or iced. It costs $18.99 for 30 g, $24.99 for 60 g and $139.99 for 500 g.
Barista Grade: a later, bolder harvest built for lattes, smoothies and baking, at $11.99 for 30 g, $19.99 for 60 g and $89.99 for 500 g.
Encha also releases single-cultivar Limited Edition Reserves (Okumidori and Saemidori, $39.99) and flavored latte powders such as Reishi Mushroom and Vanilla; these were sold out when we checked on 1 November 2026.
How to choose a matcha grade
Decide how you will drink it. If you whisk matcha with hot water and drink it straight, Ceremonial Grade is the one Encha designs for that. If you mostly make lattes, Ceremonial Grade Latte is blended to taste smooth in milk, and Barista Grade is the cheaper choice for daily lattes, smoothies and baking.
Encha's serving is 1 teaspoon, about 2 g, so a 30 g pouch makes about 15 cups and a 60 g pouch about 30. The FAQ puts caffeine at about 60 mg per serving, roughly two thirds of an 8 oz coffee, so treat it like a caffeinated drink. Encha suggests water at about 160 degrees and whisking in a W motion for 15 seconds.
Store an opened pouch sealed in the fridge or a cool, dark place and finish it within 1 to 3 months for the freshest flavor.
Deals & pricing
Encha's prices are steady, and the larger sizes are where the savings are: Ceremonial Grade costs about 67 cents a gram in a 30 g pouch and about 38 cents a gram in the 500 g bag. Subscribe & Save takes up to 15% off and ships every one or two months; you can change the date, skip a delivery or cancel in your account, but a charge is not reversed once that month's order has shipped.
We did not find a sitewide sale or a current code on the store when we checked on 1 November 2026, and we do not list codes we cannot verify.

Encha: questions people ask
Straight answers about Encha, then how this review was written and stays independent.
About Encha
Is Encha legit?
Yes. Encha has sold organic Japanese matcha since November 2014, when founder Li Gong started the brand; it is now owned by Elevate Brands OpCo LLC of New York, which publishes an Ecocert USDA Organic certificate for the range. The Ceremonial Grade page shows 4.9 from 457 store reviews, and an Amazon listing for the same grade shows 4.4 from more than 6,000 ratings.
Is Encha matcha organic?
Yes. Encha posts an Ecocert certificate, issued 2 December 2025, certifying Elevate Brands OpCo LLC under the USDA National Organic Program. Its list of organic products covers the Ceremonial, Ceremonial Latte and Barista grades in 30 g, 60 g and 500 g sizes, the single-serve sticks, Lightly Sweetened matcha, the Okumidori and Saemidori reserves, and the Reishi and Vanilla latte powders.
Where is Encha matcha from?
Japan. Current product pages say Encha sources its leaves through long-term partnerships with farms in Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Shizuoka and Uji, and the Okumidori reserve comes from Kagoshima. Some older pages on the site still describe a single farm in Uji, so treat the product page as the up-to-date statement for each grade.
What is the Encha return policy?
Encha does not accept returns or exchanges on any product, opened or unopened. If an order arrives defective, damaged or wrong, email [email protected] within 7 days of delivery with clear photos and a photo of the packing slip; Encha will replace the item or refund its cost at its discretion. Claims after 7 days are not accepted.
Does Encha ship to Canada?
No. The online store ships to US addresses only, and our checkout test offered no shipping option for Alaska or Hawaii either. Within the contiguous US, standard shipping is free on every order and takes 3 to 7 business days, and subscription orders also ship free.
Has Encha matcha been tested for lead?
Encha says annual tests detect no radioactivity and no lead at the limit it cites, and points to a 2016 ConsumerLab report that found no lead or pesticides. A 2025 lab test commissioned by the Lead Safe Mama project detected lead, cadmium and arsenic in Encha Ceremonial Grade; that project says it has not yet found any matcha free of these metals. Encha advises checking with a doctor if you are pregnant.
About this review
Is this Encha review sponsored?
No. Encha did not pay for this write-up, see it before publication, or have any say in the verdict. If we earn anything it is a commission after you buy, and it comes out of the merchant’s margin rather than your price.
How was the Encha assessed?
By using it and by checking the claims made about it against what it actually does. Where our time with something has been limited, the review says so rather than implying more testing than happened.
What else have you reviewed in Food & Drinks?
Everything in Food & Drinks sits in the review library, where you can filter by budget and sort by rating, price or how recently it landed.
Do you update reviews after publishing?
Yes — when a product changes, when a price moves for good, or when we get something wrong. Corrections are made on the piece itself with a note saying what changed.
