Questions

How much should I tip at a restaurant?

In the US, 15% to 20% of the bill is customary for sit-down service, and 18–20% is now common. Canada is similar at 15–20%. In Australia tipping is optional, and around 10% is generous for great service.

How do I work out a 20% tip quickly?

Move the decimal point one place left to get 10%, then double it. On a $64 bill, 10% is $6.40, so 20% is $12.80.

Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?

Etiquette guides usually say the pre-tax amount. Enter the bill before tax to follow that, or the full total if you prefer to tip on everything.

How do I split the bill evenly?

Enter the number of people. Each share includes its part of the tip, and you can round each person up to a whole amount.
