Pros

  • One Plant, No Plastic: Each Floofah is luffa gourd fiber cut and stitched without glue or synthetics, and the brand says the sponge, its cotton tag and its paper packaging all break down in a home compost.
  • Low Prices and Simple Bundles: A shower loofah costs $8, a 5-pack of kitchen sponges $17, the Starter Pack of five sponges and a hook $29, and Autoship sends eight Floofahs for $29 with shipping included.
  • Founder-Led With Giving Built In: Founder Phoebe Yu, profiled by UC Berkeley Haas in 2025, buys from one luffa grower in southern China, and each purchase is matched with a donation to shower nonprofits such as Dorothy Day House.

Cons

  • Floofah ships only within the 50 US states, with no checkout option for Canada, Australia or the UK, and a single $8 loofah drew a $6.99 shipping charge in our test, so build an order past $29 to get free tracked shipping.
  • Natural luffa starts out stiff and wears with use, so expect a firmer scrub for the first week and a replacement every 6 to 8 weeks in the shower or 4 to 6 weeks at the sink, and ask [email protected] for the free sample before buying a bundle.

The Verdict

What sets Floofah apart is that the whole product is one plant material, luffa gourd fiber, with no plastic in the sponge or its packaging: Founder Phoebe Yu worked in recycling technology before an MBA at UC Berkeley Haas, and started Floofah after her nylon shower pouf broke and she realized it could not be recycled. She sources from a single grower in southern China that harvests luffa twice a year and processes it on site; the fiber is cut, flattened with heat and stitched without glue, so it ships flat and expands in water. Floofah says the loofah, its cotton hang tag, the paper packaging and the shipping boxes are all home compostable, and Shifting Gaia, an independent sustainability rater, scored it 8.9 out of 10 on sustainability in June 2026. Each purchase is matched with a donation to shower-focused nonprofits such as Dorothy Day House, Shower Power and Cloud Covered Streets. A single oval or heart shower loofah costs $8, four cost $32 and eight cost $48 with two of them free. Kitchen Floofahs come five to a pack for $17, the 2-in-1 Exfoliating Back Scrubber with cotton handles costs $17, and the Starter Pack of two shower and three kitchen sponges plus a mini hook costs $29. Autoship sends five kitchen and three shower Floofahs every 3, 4, 6 or 12 months for $29 with shipping included. Orders usually leave within one business day by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground and arrive in 3 to 6 business days, with free shipping over $29. The reservations are reach, feel and a small record. Floofah ships only within the US, the new Luffa+Wood dual kitchen sponges were on backorder until November 10, and no Christmas order-by date is published. Natural luffa is firm at first and needs replacing every few weeks. Reviews are few and vary by channel: 83% of 35 on-site reviews of the oval loofah are five stars and Shop lists 4.9 from 74 ratings, while Grove shows 3.1 from 12, and there is no Trustpilot profile. Returns need an email within 30 days and the FAQ says you pay return postage, so ask for the free sample first, then buy a bundle that clears $29.

Plastic-Free, Compostable Luffa Shower Loofahs and Kitchen Sponges From $8

Floofah is a small brand run by founder Phoebe Yu, with a mailing address at 3654 Thornton Ave, Suite 716, in Fremont, California, and support by email at [email protected]. Its products are made from luffa gourds grown and processed by one farm in southern China, and the range covers oval and heart shower loofahs, a 2-in-1 back scrubber, luffa kitchen sponges and a dual dish sponge with a wood-cellulose backing. Refill shops in California, Washington, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio stock it, and Grove Collaborative sells it online.

A single Exfoliating Shower Loofah costs $8 in oval or heart shape, a four-pack $32 and an eight-pack $48 with two free. The Luffa Fiber Kitchen Sponge and the Luffa+Wood Dual Kitchen Sponge each cost $17 for five, the 2-in-1 Exfoliating Back Scrubber $17, the Starter Pack $29 and the six-month Floofah Bundle of five kitchen and three shower sponges $39. Autoship sends the same mix every 3, 4, 6 or 12 months for $29 with shipping included.

Orders are processed within 48 hours, usually one business day, and travel with tracking by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground in 3 to 6 business days. Shipping is free over $29; below that the policy says $5.99, though our 1 November 2026 checkout test charged $6.99 for one $8 loofah, including to Alaska and Hawaii. Floofah delivers only within the 50 US states, with no option for Canada, Australia or the UK. A shower loofah measures about 4 by 5.5 inches, expands in water and can be sanitized in the dishwasher, microwave or boiling water.

Returns are accepted within 30 days by emailing [email protected] for a label; the FAQ says the return postage comes out of the refund, sale items and gift cards are excluded, and refunds post within 5 business days of inspection. Orders can be cancelled within 2 hours, and a free sample is available on request. There is no Trustpilot profile; 83% of 35 on-site reviews of the oval loofah are five stars and Shop lists 4.9 from 74 ratings, while Grove shows 3.1 from 12 reviews, and UC Berkeley Haas and The Filtery have covered the brand.

Buyer's guide

Floofah: what to know before you buy

Floofah makes plastic-free shower loofahs and kitchen sponges from luffa gourd fiber and ships them across the US. Here is what each one is, what it costs and how shipping and returns work.

Shipping, returns & warranty

Floofah ships to all 50 US states and nowhere else; our checkout test on 1 November 2026 offered no rate for Canada, Australia or the UK. Orders are processed within 48 hours, usually within one business day, and go by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground with tracking, arriving in 3 to 6 business days. Shipping is free over $29. Below that, the policy says $5.99, but the checkout charged $6.99 for a single $8 loofah, including to Alaska and Hawaii. Floofah publishes no Christmas order-by date, and the Luffa+Wood dual kitchen sponges were on backorder until November 10, so order gifts early.

To cancel, email [email protected] with your order number within 2 hours of ordering. Returns are accepted within 30 days of receipt: email for a label and instructions first, because parcels sent back without a request are refused. Refunds go to the original payment method within 5 business days of inspection, and the FAQ says the return label cost is deducted. Sale items and gift cards cannot be returned, and an exchange is a return plus a new order. Report damaged or wrong items as soon as the parcel arrives. Floofah does not publish a separate product warranty.

Floofah product lines

Exfoliating Shower Loofah: an oval (about 4 by 5.5 inches) or heart (5 by 4.5 inches) luffa pad with a loop, sold singly, in fours or in eights.

2-in-1 Exfoliating Back Scrubber: one whole luffa gourd, pressed flat, with cotton handles; fold it to use as a loofah.

Luffa Fiber Kitchen Sponge: a 5-pack of 4.25 by 2.75 inch luffa scrubbers, the size of a standard kitchen sponge, which Floofah says is safe on non-stick.

Luffa+Wood Dual Kitchen Sponge: a 5-pack with a luffa scrubbing side and a soft wood-cellulose side, in green or pink.

Bundles: the Starter Pack (two shower, three kitchen and a mini hook), the six-month Floofah Bundle and Autoship deliveries.

How to choose a Floofah

For the shower, start with one oval or heart loofah: it arrives flat, softens after a few minutes in water and gets gentler with use, so the first week is the firmest. People who want a deeper back scrub can add the 2-in-1 Back Scrubber.

For dishes, the original luffa kitchen sponge scrubs hard and dries fast but is stiff around mugs and blender blades; the newer Luffa+Wood Dual sponge has a softer cellulose side that behaves more like a regular sponge.

Whichever you pick, let it dry fully between uses, sanitize it now and then in the dishwasher, microwave or boiling water, and compost it when it starts to rip. If you are unsure, email [email protected] for a free sample.

Deals & pricing

Autoship is the cheapest route for regular users: five kitchen and three shower Floofahs every 3, 4, 6 or 12 months for $29 with shipping included, with a reminder before each order. Floofah: questions people ask

Straight answers about Floofah, then how this review was written and stays independent.

About Floofah

Is Floofah legit?

Yes. Floofah is a small US brand founded by Phoebe Yu, profiled by UC Berkeley Haas in October 2025, with a Fremont, California mailing address, named refill-shop stockists and a listing on Grove Collaborative. Its review record is small: no Trustpilot profile, 4.9 from 74 ratings on Shop, 83% five-star among 35 on-site reviews of the oval loofah, and 3.1 from 12 reviews on Grove.

What is Floofah made of?

Luffa gourd fiber. The luffa is a vine vegetable in the cucumber family, and its dried, fibrous inside works as a sponge. Floofah's luffa is grown and processed by one farm in southern China, then cut, flattened with heat and stitched without glue, so each piece arrives flat and expands in water. The dual kitchen sponge adds a wood-cellulose backing.

Is Floofah compostable?

Floofah says yes: the loofah, its cotton tag, the paper packaging and the shipping boxes can go in a home compost or be buried in a garden. That is the brand's own claim rather than a compost certification. Shifting Gaia, an independent rater, scored its sustainability 8.9 out of 10 but noted the brand does not name its processing cleaner or publish residue testing.

Does Floofah ship to Canada, Australia or the UK?

No. Floofah's shipping policy covers the 50 US states, and our checkout test on 1 November 2026 offered no rate for Canada, Australia or the UK. Alaska and Hawaii were quoted the same $6.99 standard rate as the mainland for a small order, and orders over $29 ship free.

What is Floofah's return policy?

You have 30 days after receiving an order to request a return by emailing [email protected] with your order number; Floofah sends a label and instructions, and refunds reach the original payment method within 5 business days of inspection. The FAQ says the label cost comes out of your refund. Sale items and gift cards cannot be returned, and items sent back without a request are refused.

How often should I replace a Floofah?

Floofah suggests about every 8 weeks for a shower loofah (its FAQ says 4 to 6 weeks with heavy use), every 4 to 6 weeks for a kitchen sponge and about every 4 months for the back scrubber. Let it dry fully between uses, sanitize it in the dishwasher, microwave or boiling water, and compost it when it starts to rip or shed.

About this review

Is this Floofah review sponsored?

No. Floofah did not pay for this write-up, see it before publication, or have any say in the verdict. If we earn anything it is a commission after you buy, and it comes out of the merchant’s margin rather than your price.

How was the Floofah assessed?

By using it and by checking the claims made about it against what it actually does. Where our time with something has been limited, the review says so rather than implying more testing than happened.

What else have you reviewed in Health & Wellness?

Everything in Health & Wellness sits in the review library, where you can filter by budget and sort by rating, price or how recently it landed.

Do you update reviews after publishing?

Yes — when a product changes, when a price moves for good, or when we get something wrong. Corrections are made on the piece itself with a note saying what changed.
