Pros
- The Bed Is the Point: Every cabin has a patented adjustable SmartBed on a bespoke Hypnos mattress, with blackout curtains as standard and fast WiFi throughout — the three things that actually decide whether a night away works.
- Locations Worth the Postcode: YOTEL sits in New York, Boston, Miami, San Francisco and Washington DC, plus Amsterdam, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Porto, Singapore, Tokyo Ginza, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur — with YOTELAIR inside Schiphol, Gatwick, Charles de Gaulle, Changi and Istanbul, and YOTELPAD for longer stays.
- Book Direct and the Terms Improve: Joining YOTEL Club at booking gets a member rate with flexible changes and free cancellation up to 3pm the day before check-in, and at New York the rate also carries the 24/7 Peloton gym, bike hire, unlimited national calls and in-cabin streaming.
Cons
- Cabins are compact by design at around 16 square metres as standard — which is precisely how the locations and the price stay this good; the First Class King runs to roughly 301 square feet when you want the room.
- The airside YOTELAIR sleep cabins are booked by the hour with shared showers, which suits a long layover rather than a full night.
The Verdict
What sets Yotel apart is that it spends the budget on sleep and location instead of square metres: The concept came out of first-class aircraft cabins — the original prototype was designed by PriestmanGoode — and the logic still holds. Every cabin has a patented adjustable SmartBed on a bespoke Hypnos mattress, blackout curtains as standard, intuitive in-room controls and fast WiFi. Step up to a First Class King and you get roughly 301 square feet with a sofa bed, a smart HDTV with Chromecast, a rain shower and a laptop safe. What you do not pay for is a ballroom you were never going to use. The estate splits three ways: YOTEL in city centres, YOTELAIR exclusively inside airports for layovers, and YOTELPAD for longer stays with dedicated space to sleep, live and work. In the US that means New York, Boston, Miami, San Francisco and Washington DC, plus YOTELPAD Miami. Book through YOTEL Club and the member rate brings flexible changes and free cancellation up to 3pm the day before arrival. At Times Square the rate also covers a 24/7 gym with Peloton bikes, bike hire, unlimited national calls, in-cabin streaming and YOBOT, the luggage-storing robot at reception. Small room, serious bed, unbeatable address. Book the member rate and keep the flexibility.
Cabins Designed Around Sleep, Not Square Footage
Yotel was founded in 2007 by Simon Woodroffe and the YO! Company, with the room concept adapted from first-class aircraft cabins. It now runs three brands: YOTEL in city centres, YOTELAIR exclusively inside airports for short airside stays, and YOTELPAD for longer stays with dedicated space to sleep, live and work. Starwood Capital Group and Hilton Worldwide are among its shareholders and partners.

About this review
How this was written, who paid for what, and how the verdict stays independent.
Is this Yotel review sponsored?
No. Yotel did not pay for this write-up, see it before publication, or have any say in the verdict. If we earn anything it is a commission after you buy, and it comes out of the merchant’s margin rather than your price.
How was the Yotel assessed?
By using it and by checking the claims made about it against what it actually does. Where our time with something has been limited, the review says so rather than implying more testing than happened.
What else have you reviewed in Travel & Tours?
Everything in Travel & Tours sits in the review library, where you can filter by budget and sort by rating, price or how recently it landed.
Do you update reviews after publishing?
Yes — when a product changes, when a price moves for good, or when we get something wrong. Corrections are made on the piece itself with a note saying what changed.
