Pros

  • Live, Levelled And Short: Sessions run about 25 minutes with a live tutor, one to one or in a group of up to four at similar levels, starting at the child's current skill rather than their grade.
  • A Free First Session, No Card: The introductory session is free with no credit card required, and every plan runs month to month with no contract and no cancellation fee.
  • Built On Structured Literacy: Reading follows the Science of Reading and the Orton-Gillingham tradition, and maths cites the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and the What Works Clearinghouse.

Cons

  • Sessions are recorded with audio and video, and the privacy policy states those recordings sit outside the deletion request a parent can otherwise make, so it's worth knowing before the first session.
  • Missed sessions aren't refunded or made up, so choose days you can reliably keep and use the free pause of up to six months when term gets busy.

The Verdict

What sets Savvy Learning apart is short, live, levelled tutoring in the two subjects that matter most in primary school, priced monthly with nothing to sign: Savvy Learning is operated by Savvy Education, Inc., a Delaware corporation whose terms are governed by Utah law, and which previously traded as Savvy Reading. It covers reading and maths for kindergarten through sixth grade, in sessions of about 25 minutes run live by a tutor rather than as recorded lessons. Children work either one to one or in a group of up to four at similar levels, and placement is by current skill rather than by age or grade. The reading curriculum is built on the Science of Reading and structured literacy in the Orton-Gillingham tradition; the maths curriculum cites the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and the What Works Clearinghouse. All a family needs is a laptop, computer or tablet with a camera and microphone, with no software to install. Education savings account funds are accepted in Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming. Pricing is published openly and is simple. The four-day group plan is $179 a month, and private one-to-one plans are $195 for two days a week, $295 for three and $395 for four, all billed monthly until cancelled. Group sessions run Monday to Thursday and private sessions any weekday. There is no assessment fee, no contract and no fee to switch between group and private or to change the number of days. The first session is free with no card required, limited to one per household. Plans can be paused for anything from a week to six months with a day's notice. The reservations are ones a parent should read before the first session. Marketing describes live rather than recorded lessons, which refers to the format, but the privacy policy states that teaching sessions may be recorded with audio and video and that personal information held in those recordings cannot be deleted, even though parents can otherwise review, correct or delete their child's data under the policy's COPPA section. Tutor screening is described only as a background check with experience and references reviewed, without naming the checking service, its scope, or any minimum qualification. Outcome figures on the site, including a grade-equivalent number, carry no methodology. The company publishes no address, phone number or named staff, and Trustpilot holds 11 reviews with none in the past year. Sit in on the first few sessions, ask what the background check covers, and the teaching itself is well built.

Live Reading and Maths Tutoring for K–6

Savvy Learning is operated by Savvy Education, Inc., a Delaware corporation, with its terms governed by the laws of Utah and exclusive venue in Salt Lake County; it previously traded as Savvy Reading. No street address, telephone number or named staff member appears anywhere on the site, and contact runs through a web form and the addresses [email protected] and [email protected]. The service covers reading and maths for kindergarten through sixth grade, and education savings account funds are accepted in Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Plans are $179 a month for the four-day group option, which places up to four students of similar level together Monday to Thursday, and $195, $295 or $395 a month for one-to-one private sessions at two, three or four days a week on any weekday. All plans are billed monthly until cancelled, with no contract, no cancellation fee and no charge to switch between group and private or to change the number of days. The first session is free with no credit card required, limited to one introductory session per household. Prepaid plans of 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months exist for education savings account families and do not auto-renew; their prices are not published.

Sessions run about 25 minutes and are delivered live rather than as recorded lessons, with placement set by the child's current skill level rather than age or grade. The reading curriculum is described as built on the Science of Reading including the research highlighted by the National Reading Panel, and on structured literacy in the Orton-Gillingham tradition; the maths curriculum cites research from the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and the What Works Clearinghouse. A laptop, computer or tablet with a camera, microphone and stable connection is all that is required, with no downloads. Parents are told they are welcome to listen in or sit close by, and many stay nearby for the first few sessions.

Savvy states that every tutor clears a background check before working with a student and that teaching experience and references are reviewed, and that tutors are trained to teach its lessons to K–6 learners. The checking provider, the scope of the check, any re-screening schedule, any minimum teaching qualification, and whether tutors are employees or contractors are not published. The privacy policy contains a COPPA section stating that the company does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, and that the child's name, birth date, grade level, parent's email, member name, password and information from recorded teaching sessions are collected. It also states that teaching sessions may be recorded including audio and visual information, and that personal information held in recordings of teaching sessions cannot be deleted. No independent certification such as kidSAFE or a COPPA safe harbour seal was identified. Subscriptions renew automatically each month at current rates until cancelled, and can be cancelled at any time through the parent dashboard or by email with no fee, with access continuing to the end of the billing period; plans can be paused from one week to six months with at least one day's notice. Subscription and prepaid fees are non-refundable, and sessions that are scheduled but missed are forfeited rather than refunded or rescheduled. The terms contain no arbitration clause and no class action waiver. Outcome claims on the site, including a stated beginning-of-year grade equivalent of 6.3 against prior growth of 0.2 points, carry no methodology, sample size or testing instrument, and no results-may-vary language accompanies the testimonials. Trustpilot shows 4.4 across 11 reviews on a profile claimed in March 2025, with none recorded in the past twelve months; no BBB profile was identified.

About this review

How this was written, who paid for what, and how the verdict stays independent.

Is this Savvy Learning review sponsored?

No. Savvy Learning did not pay for this write-up, see it before publication, or have any say in the verdict. If we earn anything it is a commission after you buy, and it comes out of the merchant’s margin rather than your price.

How was the Savvy Learning assessed?

By using it and by checking the claims made about it against what it actually does. Where our time with something has been limited, the review says so rather than implying more testing than happened.

What else have you reviewed in Education?

Everything in Education sits in the review library, where you can filter by budget and sort by rating, price or how recently it landed.

Do you update reviews after publishing?

Yes — when a product changes, when a price moves for good, or when we get something wrong. Corrections are made on the piece itself with a note saying what changed.
